Predicting the Divisional round of the NFL playoffs

Hello and welcome back to The Cowan Corner for another week of NFL picks and predictions.

Home teams won every game in the wild-card round which is pretty unusual, but means we are left with eight teams and all of them are division champions.

This week, the field gets cut to four as the top seeds in both conferences return to action after their byes.

Without further ado, let’s get into the picks.

Falcons over Seahawks

This could be a very interesting contest to start out the week as the Falcons have the best offense in football this season and the Seahawks are still one of the top defenses around.

I see this being a close game, but I think the Falcons have the clear edge at home and should be able to outscore the Seahawks and advance to the NFC championship.

Patriots over Texans

Now, we’ve gone from a game which could go either way to a game with a very obvious conclusion.

I don’t see any way the Texans can beat the Patriots in Foxborough even with their stellar defense. I could see this game being the big blowout of the weekend.

Chiefs over Steelers

I think the Sunday games were the most difficult ones for me to pick and that includes this matchup.

I could honestly see it going either way, but I think Ben Roethlisberger being slightly hobbled will have an effect on this game.

The Chiefs defense should be after Roethlisberger all game and the offense should do just enough to win.

Packers over Cowboys

I debated this pick for a while and I really think the Packers are better. The Packers have been the hottest team in football in the second half of the season and while the Cowboys had a good season overall, they also benefited from a weak schedule.

I think the big difference here will be in the quarterback play because while Dak Prescott has had a decent rookie year, he doesn’t come close to comparing to Aaron Rodgers right now.

That does it for this week’s picks. Check back next week for more NFL playoff picks and analysis of the week that was in football.

Wild Card: 2-2

Overall: 158-100-2
